Adopting a Dog

When you adopt a dog from JNMRF, you sign a legal contract to care for that dog.  If there is ever a situation where you cannot care for the dog appropriately, JNMRF will take the dog back and find a new home for it.  Dogs are microchipped by and registered to the fund with the adopter listed as the alternate contact.  You are responsible for keeping JNMRF informed if your contact information changes.

To apply for a dog, fill out an adoption application.  Online applications are submitted directly to us.   Alternately, you may download a form, fill it in, and mail it to JNMRF, P.O. Box 65, Mendenhall, PA 19357.  Please note that the so called "invisible fence" is not an acceptable substitute for a physical fence as it will not protect or restrain a dog.

You may write an email to express interest in a specific dog you have seen on our rescue site.  Our coordinator may know of other dogs that might also be of interest which are not yet listed on the rescue page and discuss them with you as well.

Arrangements for a home visit will be made as expeditiously as possible.  No application is approved until after the home visit.  It is very important that we get a feeling for your home situation in order to best match a dog with a home.  Once your application has been reviewed and approved, we encourage you to meet the dog if you are able to travel to the dog's location.  In cases where a dog is not close enough to visit, you can still adopt the dog.  A trial period of one month will be arranged before the adoption is finalized.  We will work with you to arrange for the dog's transport.

Once a mutual agreement between you and the JNMRF coordinator is reached on placing a specific dog in your home, you will be asked to sign an adoption contract prior to or at the time of receiving that dog.  Your adoption fee should be paid at that time.  By law, adoption fees are not tax deductible but any amount received above the requested fee is a donation which is deductible.  We depend on adoption fees and donations to allow us to continue our work.

Go to the adoption application now.
